World Trade Center Pune in collaboration with the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce hosted an insightful event on Global Business Opportunities-Trade and Geopolitics in January last week.

The session featured welcome addresses by Mr. Luv Tanwani, Chairman of Indo-American Chamber of Commerce and Mr. Niraj Khinvasar, Executive Director at World Trade Center Pune. 

The summit explored key trends shaping global trade, highlighting how businesses are addressing challenges such as trade tensions, evolving tax regulations geopolitical uncertainty and many more.

The discussion also delved into emerging frameworks like the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism.

The session provided valuable insights into how these complexities are influencing international trade dynamics and shaping strategic decision-making.

Following this engaging session, an insightful panel discussion was held with dynamic industry leaders offering a wealth of expertise on these issues,Mr. Rajesh Wazarkar, Managing Director at Hyster-Yale India, addressed the evolving landscape of trade policies. He also discussed how the manufacturing sector is expanding its global footprint. During his discussion he also highlighted the role of innovation and strategic expansion in driving growth.

Mr. Devendra Rane, Material Planning and Logistics Director at Cummins India shared insights into sustainability underscoring Cummins's leadership as one of the oldest American companies in India. He emphasized the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship and reducing its carbon footprint with a particular focus on transitioning from a CO2 reduction agenda to an O2-positive ambition.

Mr. Krishna Barad, Director of Global Trade & Indirect Tax at EY, provided an in-depth analysis of the latest tax changes and tariff structures that are influencing global trade. His also outlined how businesses adjust to the rapidly changing tax and trade landscape, offering strategies for managing risks and opportunities in this evolving environment.

The session was expertly moderated by Dr. Sushmita Nande, Assistant Professor at MES Garware College of Commerce, who facilitated the discussion and helped bring out key takeaways for the audience.

Discussions also covered the impact of initiatives such as Make in India and strategies for risk management and market expansion.
