Aug 26, 2016

TRIESTE, ITALY - On July 28, World Trade Center Savannah’s founding investor partner, Georgia Ports Authority (GPA), attended an international forum organized by AREA Science Park, Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, the Chamber of Commerce of Udine, Friuli Innovazione and World Trade Center Trieste. The forum, which focused on the following topic: “Driving change for US and Italian innovation Systems: Finding Better Ways to Learn from Each Other,” brought together leading policymakers, institutional representatives, thinkers and practitioners from Italy, Southeastern Europe and the US. The goal of the forum was to envision what companies, institutions and research centers will look like in the future and to determine what steps need to be taken today in order to increase cooperation between companies in the US and Italy.

John Petrino, Director of Business Development for GPA and Board Member of WTC Savannah, participated in the plenary session, “The Port of Trieste as the North-Adriatic Gateway for the Development of Central and South-Eastern Europe.” The President of the Trieste Port Authority, the Director of the Central Counterfeiting and Controls of the Customs Authority, the US Department of State, the ICT Regional Coordinator, ECA and MENA-World Bank as well as leadership of the World Trade Center Trieste, joined Petrino in the session.

The collaboration between World Trade Center Trieste and WTC Savannah served as the first concrete opportunity for both regions to develop stronger connections and increase ties between businesses in both regions.
