Conference Promotes Women-owned Businesses

A State Level Conference on Women Entrepreneurs was organised by World Trade Centre (WTC) Mumbai and Industries Department, Government of Maharashtra on the occasion of International MSME Day on June 27, 2018 at the WTC Mumbai. Mr. Subhash Desai, Hon’ble Minister of Industry and Mining, Government of Maharashtra who was the Chief Guest at the event said, “I invite women to take advantage of the industrial policy for women entrepreneurs announced by the Maharashtra government in December 2017 and provide suggestions for improvisations. Women entrepreneurs must seek clarification through Government of India’s MAITRI Portal, which is a single window interface for the industry. This policy aims to enhance the share of women-owned enterprises from 9% today to 20% in the next five years”.

Mr. Praveen Pote Patil, Hon’ble Minister of State (Industry and Mining), Government of “We have provided training to over 28,000 women in the last three years and if women acquire self confidence, no one can stop them”.

Mr. Satish Gavai, Additional Chief Secretary (Industry), Government of Maharashtra said, “In order to promote women’s participation in trade and industry, there is need for change in the mindset of the society, which can lead to progress without any government support”.

Dr. Harshdeep Kamble, Development Commissioner (Industries), Directorate of Industries, Government of Maharashtra said, “The policy offers women entrepreneurs capital subsidy and subsidy on cost of power. It allots reserved spaces in malls, commercial complexes and MIDC areas. Additional benefits are provided in setting up industries in backward areas. To prevent misuse, government allows only 100% women-owned industries to claim benefits”.

Ms. Kalpana Saroj, Managing Director, Kamani Tubes and Smt. Poonam Soni, Founder & Chief Executive Officer, Poonam Soni Signature Line who are successful entrepreneurs, shared their inspiring stories, experiences and challenges at the event.

Ms. Rupa Naik, Senior Director, MVIRDC World Trade Centre Mumbai suggested, “Government of Maharashtra must support women entrepreneurs to participate in foreign trade missions, international trade fairs and other global events”.

The women felicitated at the event were Ms. Ankita Shroff, Founder, SAV Chemicals Pvt. Ltd., Ms. Deepti Jaiswal, Founder & Owner, NULYFINDIA, Ms. Smita Jadhav, Proprietor, Nutan Industries, Ms. Arundhati Joshi, Managing Director, Plazma Technologies, Ms. Pooja Ahire, Director, Vinimax Industries, Pune and Ms. Mumtaj Pathan, Director, Alamprabhu Garment Cluster, Osmanabad for their exemplary contributions to trade and industry.
