Martina Curtin’s Irish-American Legacy of Leadership

From the storied green fields of County Clare—renowned for its rich heritage, music, and resilient spirit—to the dynamic innovation hubs of Massachusetts, Martina Curtin’s journey is a powerful testament to vision, determination, and cultural pride. As the founder of Concierge HomeCare Plus, co-founder of Mná Mheiriceá, and Board Chair of the Irish Cultural Centre of Greater Boston, Martina has emerged as a transformative leader, forging deep and lasting connections between Ireland and the United States. She seamlessly blends compassion, entrepreneurship, and heritage through her work, strengthening communities across the Atlantic. The World Trade Center Dublin was honored to speak with this inspiring changemaker to explore how her leadership empowers others, champions Irish identity, and drives global impact with purpose and heart.

You have built an impressive portfolio of businesses and leadership roles. Could you share a bit about your journey—where it all began and what influenced your path as an entrepreneur?

My journey began in County Clare, Ireland. I was raised there as the oldest of eleven children on a working farm. It is a place that taught me the value of community resilience and, above all, the importance of connections with people. When I moved to Boston, it opened up opportunities I could never have imagined. Yet, everything I do is always about people; the individuals I surround myself with inspire me. There was no grandiose plan or big business strategy regarding my path to becoming an entrepreneur. I have always possessed a moral compass rooted in a deep desire to serve in everything I do and to do it well.

In 2024, you launched Concierge HomeCare Plus , providing personalized, high-quality care globally. What inspired you to create this company? What market need did you identify, and how do you ensure consistency, compassion, and excellence across a diverse client base?

After many years in private home care and the organic growth of my first company, CHC Home Care, I recognized a significant gap in the market: a demand for a more personalized, high-touch care experience that extended beyond traditional home settings. Following CHC's acquisition by a Canadian firm in 2020, I honored my non-compete agreement and reflected on the evolving needs of my clients. Concierge HomeCare Plus was established to meet those needs, offering flexible, detail-oriented services that support individuals in the United States and abroad, allowing them to maintain their lifestyles while receiving exceptional care.

Consistency, compassion, and quality are achieved through a relentless focus on people. I have always believed that an organization is only as strong as its team. By recruiting highly trained professionals, upholding rigorous standards, and maintaining clear and transparent communication, we ensure that every client, regardless of location, receives the highest level of care and feels valued as part of our extended family.

You are also the co-founder of Mná Mheiriceá , a powerful women’s networking group. What inspired you to create this community, and how has it shaped your broader approach to empowering individuals?

Mná Mheiriceá was born from a deep desire to create a space where people could feel fully seen, valued, and connected, particularly within the Irish and Irish-American communities. When we launched in March 2023, we recognized that many individuals, especially women, often felt excluded from traditional networking spaces. Our mission soon expanded beyond professional networking; it became about building a true community. Through wellness walks, business breakfasts, and retreats, we emphasize authenticity over titles, fostering a welcoming environment where attendees represent their whole selves.

This commitment to empowering others stems from my journey. As the eldest of eleven children, I witnessed firsthand the importance of hard work, resilience, and encouragement. I've been fortunate to have mentors who believed in me throughout my career, and I’m passionate about paying that forward. Whether supporting women, mentoring young leaders, or building community initiatives, I believe leadership is about ensuring everyone has a seat at the table—and the confidence to use their voice. True leadership isn’t just about lifting yourself up; it’s about lifting others with you.

Your Irish heritage serves as a driving force in your life and leadership. How has your identity influenced your journey, and why is the Irish Cultural Centre of Greater Boston so personally significant to you and the broader community?

Being proudly from County Clare, my Irish heritage is at the core of everything I do, shaping my sense of humor, leadership style, and deep commitment to fostering meaningful connections. I embrace my heritage daily, not just as a tradition to celebrate occasionally. The Irish Cultural Centre of Greater Boston holds immense personal significance because it embodies the spirit of home, community, and belonging with which I grew up, surrounded by Irish music, language, and traditions.

As Board Chairperson, I have worked to extend the Centre’s influence by bridging the gap between the business communities of Canton and Boston and creating opportunities for new generations to connect with Ireland through cultural events, collaboration, and celebration. Through programs such as Irish language classes, music, step dancing, and GAA sports, the Centre remains a vibrant hub of Irish heritage where individuals of all ages can experience their culture firsthand. Events like the Galway Races Gala and the Brian J. Donnelly Leadership Award celebrate the ties between Ireland and America, while initiatives like the Gradam Dóchais Community Award honor individuals who embody the spirit of service. These efforts ensure that the Centre continues to preserve our rich heritage while fostering connections among past, present, and future generations.

With strong roots in Ireland and the U.S., how do you bridge these cultures in your work, and what role have global networks like the World Trade Center Dublin played in expanding your impact?

I feel incredibly fortunate to call both County Clare and Boston home—two places that have shaped who I am, both personally and professionally. My Irish heritage, steeped in culture, music, and community, lies at the heart of everything I do, while Boston’s energy and innovation constantly inspire new ideas. I see my role as building bridges by bringing Irish perspectives to the U.S. and creating opportunities for connection in both directions.

Networks like the World Trade Center Dublin have been invaluable to this mission. They offer business opportunities and foster community, demonstrating that we cannot succeed alone. Growth happens through teamwork, collaboration, and a shared commitment to developing meaningful relationships across borders.

What advice can you offer to Irish entrepreneurs who wish to elevate their ideas and businesses to the global stage?

I would say, believe in yourself and your story, as that sets you apart from everyone. I can't emphasize it enough: surround yourself with good people. Also, don't be afraid to ask for help; that is not a sign of weakness or failure. People here are generous with their time and genuinely want you to succeed. Additionally, seeking assistance and building that network is what it's all about.

What are your next steps? Do you have any upcoming projects you would like to share with our global network?

I am very excited about the upcoming Mná Mheiriceá podcast, which will launch this summer. We will share the stories of real women in our community and around the world. I also look forward to expanding Concierge HomeCare Plus and continuing my work with the Irish Cultural Center.
