Alexis Ohanian Inspires at WTC Las Vegas Event

LAS VEGAS, NV, USA - Following a 30-minute networking breakfast, Mr. Alexis Ohanian, co-founder of reddit, a top 50 US website, gave a keynote speech at the Las Vegas Convention and World Trade Center before an audience of more than 100 executives consisting of 2015 International CES® exhibitors, Las Vegas business community dignitaries, and international and domestic CES attendees.

The event took place on January 8, 2015, during the 2015 International CES, the world’s gathering place for all who thrive on the business of consumer technologies. CES is owned and produced by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) ®, licensee of the World Trade Center Las Vegas.

Gary Shapiro, President and CEO, CEA, kicked off the breakfast with innovation policy remarks, and then introduced Mr. Ohanian. As a founder of a successful Internet startup with international renown, Mr. Ohanian shared his insights on entrepreneurship and innovation with an enthusiastic audience.

Among a range of topics, Mr. Ohanian discussed his experiences founding reddit and investing in companies that fit his model of making something people love. In particular, he is attempting to recast the word “hack” from its negative connotation to its original meaning. For example, there is a need for more entrepreneurs who can hack, or reverse-engineer and deeply understand a process or technology, in order to create a better application in the marketplace. Mr. Ohanian also talked about the value of new tools of community building via the Internet that allow individuals to span the globe to create movements and find common interests.

Mr. Ohanian also talked about his experiences during the promotional tour for his book “Without Their Permission,” his personal guidebook for how other aspiring entrepreneurs can follow in his footsteps. Following a free-ranging audience question-and-answer session, breakfast attendees received a copy of Ohanian’s book and had the opportunity to engage one-on-one with Mr. Ohanian during an autograph session.
