10th Annual CEPA Forum

Sep 24, 2018

The Center for European Policy Analysis (CEPA) convened for their 10th annual CEPA Forum at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center on Monday, September 24, 2018.

The theme of this year’s Forum will focus on “Winning the 21st Century-Allied Strength and Solidarity.” The CEPA Forum is the leading annual transatlantic conference in Washington D.C., representing the largest gathering of European officials, experts and industry leaders in the United States.

Discussion topics included the challenges facing NATO and EU cooperation in a time of heightened state competition, the strategic benefits of looking beyond NATO’s baseline requirements to improve collective defense, energy security, and developments on the technology frontline with hybrid threats.

Miroslav Lajčák, the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs for Slovakia, Jacek Czaputowicz, the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Poland and Jan Havránek, the Policy Advisor for the Policy Planning Unit of the Office of the Secretary General at NATO, were among the many speakers during the forum.

Timothy Garton Ash, a professor of European Studies at Oxford University and a Senior Fellow at Hoover Institution and Stanford University, was the lunch keynote speaker. He gave remarks about the Promise of 1989, and its impact on today’s geopolitics.

CEPA is the only U.S. think-tank dedicated to the study of Central and Eastern Europe. With offices in Washington and Warsaw, it has grown rapidly over the last decade to become the leading voice for strengthening security and democracy in the countries of post-Communist Europe. CEPA is at the forefront of the transatlantic policy debate on issues of defense, energy and democratic reform in Central and Eastern Europe. Its mission is to promote an economically vibrant, geopolitically stable and politically free Central and Eastern European region with close and enduring ties to the United States.
