The Embassy of Algeria, with the support of the U.S.-Algeria Business Council, hosted the Algeria Week Expo in Washington, DC at the Ronald Reagan Building on September 10- September 13, 2018. The event was held to showcase Algeria’s history, heritage and its economic and tourist potential.

The Expo, also dubbed as the Algerian Economic and Cultural Week, encompassed three various sections dedicated to industry, craft industry and tourism with a single goal: the promotion of “made in Algeria” in the electrical and electronic industries, household appliances, food and craft industries such as ceramics, carpets, clothing and jewelry.

The week represented a huge opportunity for Algerian companies to open up to the U.S. market, where access is expected to grow as a result of the renewal of the generalized U.S. preferential system.

The event was kicked off with welcome remarks by the Minister of Commerce Said Djellab and a ribbon cutting ceremony to document the historic event. Alongside His Excellency Djellab were other representatives of the U.S. Department of State and Department of Commerce.

Also during the opening ceremony, a folk troupe from Setif played traditional music in the presence of Ambassador Joan Polaschik Acting Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, Sarah Kemp Acting Deputy Under-Secretary for International Trade, authorities of District of Columbia, and His Excellency Madjid Bouguerra, the Ambassador of Algeria to Washington, DC.

“The week, the first ever to be held here, aims at promoting the image of an Algeria which is developed and culturally and artistically rich, an Algeria which is willing to progress and export,” Bouguerra said.
