World Trade Center Tampa Bay Joins CHINA Town Hall on Chinese Investments in the United States

Former Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin leads an expert panel for a live “town hall” meeting to be broadcast to audiences in more than 70 locations nationwide on what China’s investments in the United States mean for American workers, communities and the economy.

In addition to the national webcast, WTC Tampa Bay will host Live Keynote Speaker: Beth Smits, Former Head of Public Affairs and Communication, Asia Pacific for SWIFT, as she will speak on "What internationalization of the RMB means for US business".

Internationalization of the Chinese currency, the renminbi (RMB), is a stated goal of the Chinese government and has implications for companies doing business with China. Does it make sense to start paying your Chinese suppliers in RMB? Should you bill your Chinese customers in their local currency? How do you accomplish this in the most cost-efficient way? Does the increased global use of the RMB create new opportunities for your firm, or more uncertainties? Beth Smits, who was working in financial services in Hong Kong when the Chinese launched their RMB internationalization program in 2009, will address these questions and share her insights into the importance of the global spread of the renminbi for business today -- and for the global economy of the future.
