Georgia’s international reps visit Savannah

Apr 17, 2019

SAVANNAH, GEORGIA U.S.A. – World Trade Center Savannah (WTCSav) hosted the Georgia Department of Economic Development’s (GDEcD) international trade and investment representatives in Savannah, Thursday, March 28 to meet one-on-one with businesses in Coastal Georgia. Representatives from Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Germany, Israel, Korea, Mexico, Peru and the United Kingdom/Ireland had more than 30 one-on-one meetings with regional companies interested in international trade.

During their time in Coastal Georgia, the representatives had the opportunity to learn first-hand about manufacturing in the region and see developments such as the Savannah Manufacturing Center, a 719-acre industrial development tract spanning 433 upland acres with individual parcels from 24 to 193 acres. This group was one of the first to tour the center since its groundbreaking in April 2018.

“The investment made into the Savannah Manufacturing Center was extremely impressive. Having sites shovel ready will be a big plus when promoting sites to Korean investors. I look forward to visiting again when it is populated by leading companies from across the nation and the globe,” said Peter Underwood, Managing Director, State of Georgia– Korea.

The group also visited the Port of Savannah, home to the largest single-terminal container facility of its kind in North America. The Port of Savannah is the fourth busiest container handling facilities in the United States, encompassing more than 1,200 acres and moving millions of tons of containerized cargo annually.

“The Port of Savannah and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport are the one-two punch that has kept Georgia the No. 1 state in the nation in which to do business. Savannah is our maritime gateway to global markets and Georgia’s beautiful front door to welcome the world,” said Sergio Domingues, Managing Director, State of Georgia – Europe.

The Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport has been the world's busiest airport every year since 2000.

“Our visit to Savannah was very productive and we learned a great deal about how dynamic the city is along with its incredible growth in trade. We heard first hand of the benefits of the port for Georgia companies looking to increase exports to South America and had the opportunity to meet with companies from Savannah on a one to one basis to learn more about their product offerings and plans to expand internationally into our countries, which are the most solid in the region,” said Veronica Medina, Managing Director, State of Georgia – Chile & Peru.
