Oct 20, 2022

The Port of San Diego has once again earned the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) for fiscal year 2021 from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada.

This is the eighth consecutive year the Port has received this honor, which is considered the highest form o f recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting.

“The Port of San Diego remains steadfast in providing full disclosure and receiving the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for eight consecutive years demonstrates just that,” said Chairman Dan Malcolm, Port of San Diego Board of Port Commissioners. “The Port is tasked with managing the tidelands of San Diego Bay on behalf of the citizens of California, and this report provides the public with clear and detailed information about the Port’s financial shape.”

To receive a Certificate of Achievement, a government must publish an easily readable and efficiently organized Annual Comprehensive Financial Report that satisfies both generally accepted accounting principles and applicable legal requirements. A Certificate of Achievement is valid for a period of one year.

The Port’s ACFR has been judged by an impartial panel comprised of individuals with expertise in public sector financial reporting that included financial statement preparers, previous independent auditors, academics, and other finance professionals to meet the high standards of the program.

GFOA advances excellence in government finance by providing best practices, professional development, resources, and practical research for more than 21,000 members and the communities they serve.
