MIKE HESS BREWING, MR. MOTO PIZZA, AND SPILL THE BEANS ANTICIPATED TO OPEN IN 2020

As part of the Port of San Diego’s efforts to revitalize Seaport Village, the Board of Port Commissioners has approved leases for Mike Hess Brewing, Mr. Moto Pizza, and Spill the Beans. Anticipated to open in 2020, these local businesses, along with site enhancements, community programs and more, are creating excitement within Seaport Village for locals and visitors alike.

“Visit Seaport Village! The Port is thrilled to bring some new and established local favorites to the San Diego Bay waterfront for the enjoyment of San Diegans as well as those who visit us from across the country and around the world,” said Chairman Garry Bonelli, Port of San Diego Board of Port Commissioners. “These new tenants will help bring fresh energy and vitality to the diverse shops, unique eateries and outdoor entertainment already offered at the vibrant harbor-side hub.”

One of the region’s premier craft breweries, Mike Hess Brewing provides great beers and a welcoming atmosphere at its San Diego locations in Miramar, North Park, Imperial Beach and Ocean Beach. They’ll move into a space along the waterfront boardwalk in the Carousel District north of the Pier Café and will have a beer tasting room and patio area with a full-service restaurant.

"Few things are more essential to the San Diego experience than a visit to Seaport Village,” said Mike Hess, Chief Brewing Officer at Mike Hess Brewing. “To be a part of that history and serve our beer in such an idyllic waterfront location – we're incredibly excited. By partnering with City Tacos, we'll be offering two of San Diego's most popular, authentic brand experiences – craft beer and tacos – under one roof. We're looking to bring great beer and great food to locals and visitors alike. See you there!"

Mr. Moto Pizza has quickly become one of San Diego’s favorite pizza restaurants, serving up New York-style pizza either by the slice or an entire pie. Seaport Village will be its sixth location, where they’ll offer pickup and delivery in addition to dining-in on its waterfront patio. They’ll be located north of the Pier Café and adjacent to Mike Hess Brewing in the Carousel District.

“We are excited about this new space in Seaport Village! Pizza, beer and the bayfront is what people want so we will give them the Mr. Moto experience by the water,” said Gibran Fernandez, Mr. Moto Pizza. “Our fresh, crafty, and innovative concept is what people in that area have been wanting for years!”

Spill the Beans is a specialty coffee and bagel shop that opened in the Gaslamp Quarter in 2017. They’ve built a successful and unique brand and will open their second location in a key boardwalk vacancy in Seaport Village’s Lighthouse District across from the Marriott Marina near San Pasqual Winery.

“We’re thrilled to open our second location of Spill the Beans in Seaport Village,” said Joe Vaught, Spill the Beans. “The crowd of visitors and locals perusing the outdoor venue can count on our staff of baristas and pastry chefs to keep them fueled with locally roasted coffee by Dark Horse and California-style bagels that are doughy and downright delicious.”

Additionally, the Port and its partners continue to activate Seaport Village and make various site enhancements and operational improvements. Highlights include:

  • Free live music daily in the Carousel District and Sundays in the Lighthouse District;
  • Seaport Sessions, a weekly speaker series and mixer, including musical performances by local artists/bands, held every Thursday in the Lighthouse District;
  • Studio by the Bay Family Days – in collaboration with The New Children’s Museum, features art making with two artists-in-residents, Kurosh Yahyai and Jose Venegas, free monthly workshops and play-based experiences for children and families;
