Nagpur Offers Export Potential in Agri. & Mfg.

World Trade Centre Mumbai organised its 2nd edition of World Trade Day Maharashtra in Nagpur on the theme ‘Enhancing Export Opportunities for MSMEs’ in association with Maharashtra Industry Trade and Investment Facilitation Cell (MAITRI) and Vidarbha Industries Association (VIA) on June 23, 2018 at VIA. It was part of the Centre’s week-long World Trade Day programme organised in different districts in Maharashtra.

Mr. Atul Pande, President, Vidarbha Industries Association said that Nagpur popularly has tremendous potential in food products and beverages, rubber and plastics, fabricated metal products, machinery and equipment, paper and paper products, etc. Existing clusters of micro and small enterprises are in garments and pulses. Manufacture of Machinery & Equipment stands among highest in terms of investments by existing MSMEs (since it is a capital-intensive industry) having exportable capacity.

Mr. Rajat Srivastava, Regional Director- Western Region, Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC) said, “India’s engineering goods export rose from 0.5% in 1955-56 to 25% in 2017-18”.

Mr. Srivastava suggested engineering companies in Nagpur to take advantage of business opportunities not only in English-speaking countries but also neighbouring Asia and Latin American countries. Columbia is the second largest market for India’s engineering goods in LAC region. He invited engineering companies to participate in Bogota International Trade Show. India’s engineering export to Philippines has grown exponentially and invited Indian companies to participate in INDEE Philippines.

Mr. Samarth Chaturvedi, Chief Manager, EXIM Bank advised MSME units to take advantage of initiatives such as EXIM Mitra and Grassroots Initiatives for Development (GRID).

Ms. Sunita Sindwani, Chief General Manager, Export Import Bank of India was also present on the occasion.

Mr. Dinesh Daga, Deputy General Manager, Maharashtra State Agriculture, Marketing Board (MSAMB) said that Nagpur had a modern marketing centre which serves as an export facility center provided by the Board. Mr. Daga spoke of export promotion activities undertaken by MSAMB which include Awareness Programs, Market Access, participation in International Exhibitions, Horticulture Export Training Course. The Export activities in the Vidarbha region are – Amravati District: Green Chili / Okra, Wardha District: Mandarin Export from Karanja Ghadge, Akola District: Banana Export.
