India, Rwanda Look to Deepen Strategic Partnership

An interactive meeting in honour of H. E. Mr. Ernest Rwamucyo, High Commissioner of Rwanda, High Commission of the Republic of Rwanda in India was organised by MVIRDC World Trade Centre Mumbai on October 9, 2018. H. E. Mr. Ernest Rwamucyo said, “Rwanda and India are strategic partners. We are glad to partner with MVIRDC World Trade Centre Mumbai and have collaboration in Mumbai for the last few years. The Prime Minister of India recently visited Rwanda accompanied by a strong delegation of about 120 business leaders and signed eight significant agreements on defense, dairy, leather, agriculture co-operation and cultural exchange amounting to USD 200 million”.

H. E. Mr. Ernest Rwamucyo further remarked, “Indian companies in Rwanda are active in textiles, pharmaceuticals, mining sector, tea, agriculture, manufacturing sectors, auto components, engineering, etc. Rwanda is services oriented and has seen growth in the areas of irrigation, industrial parks, Special Economic Zones (SEZs), thereby nurturing opportunities for collaboration between our countries”.
H. E. Mr. Ernest Rwamucyo informed about the facilities of direct flight from Mumbai to Rwanda and visa on arrival that will enable ease of trade and investment among the countries and further, invited Indian counterparts to explore tourism opportunities in Rwanda.

Mr. Vijay Kalantri, Vice Chairman, MVIRDC World Trade Centre Mumbai said, “MVIRDC WTC Mumbai assures all possible support to Rwandan companies and the High Commission of Rwanda in India. We support bilateral partnership by facilitating trade and investment exchanges between the two strategic partner countries. Previously it was ‘Look Africa’, now is the time to ‘Act Africa’.

“The potential for enhancing bilateral cooperation in the services sector viz. tourism and financial services is immense and should be tapped,” said Ms. Rupa Naik, Senior Director, MVIRDC World Trade Centre Mumbai.

Ms. Naik invited H. E. Mr. Ernest Rwamucyo and business delegates from Rwanda to participate in World Trade Expo 2018 scheduled to be held from October 29-30, 2018 and 8th Global Economic Summit scheduled from March 6-8, 2019.
