Aurangabad MSMEs Must Tap Potential in ASEAN

World Trade Centre Mumbai organised its 2nd edition of World Trade Day Maharashtra in Aurangabad on the theme ‘Enhancing Export Opportunities for MSMEs’ in association with Maharashtra Industry Trade and Investment Facilitation Cell (MAITRI) and Marathwada Association of Small Scale Industries and Agriculture (MASSIA) on June 20, 2018 at MASSIA Conference Hall. It was part of the Centre’s week-long World Trade Day programme organised in different districts in Maharashtra.

Mr. Dilip Shankar Guralwar, Senior District Manager, District Industries Center Aurangabad said, “During 2016-17 174 enterprises held Import Export Code in Aurangabad. The district witnessed exports worth Rs. 13985 crore from 56 companies (including MSMEs and large companies)”.

Mr. Rupesh Sharma, Regional Head, EXIM Bank pointed out that Aurangabad has a huge untapped export potential in fabric (cotton and silk), pharmaceuticals, cereals and plastic tubes.

Mr. Sharma advised MSMEs to take advantage of initiatives like EXIM Mitra and Grassroots Initiatives for Development (GRID).

Mr. Rajat Srivastava, Regional Director- Western Region, Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC) said engineering companies in Aurangabad must take advantage of opportunities Asia and Latin American countries. Columbia is the second largest market for India’s engineering goods in LAC region. He invited engineering companies to participate in Bogota International Trade Show. India’s engineering export to Philippines has grown exponentially and invited Indian companies to participate in INDEE Philippines.

Mr. Suresh Todkar, Director, Deogiri Electronics Cluster Pvt. Ltd said, “The demand for electronic goods will increase to USD 400 billion in 2020”. He discussed Modified Special Incentive Package Scheme (M-SIPS) to offset disability and attract investments in electronic manufacturing.

Mr. Vinod Paratkar, Director, Indo-ASEAN Business Advisory (IABA) said, “Aurangabad is an upcoming manufacturing hub, local entrepreneurs from automobile, rubber, pharmaceuticals, electrical equipment and goods, agriculture sector particularly seed processing, infrastructure allied sector services and IT, Internet of Things (IoT) and healthcare services has advantage in ASEAN”.

Mr. Paratkar further added that the challenge is to create awareness and build confidence of ASEAN countries by offering the class products and services as well to build relationship.

Mr. Lalit Amru, Deputy General Manager, Ajanta Pharma Ltd. presented the journey of Ajanta Pharma from being a small unit to a large company.
