The Autonomous University of Nuevo León was awarded the Taiichi Ohno Recognition for Methodological Excellence, making it the first university globally to receive this distinction for implementing the Japanese 5S methodology.

This recognition, granted by the Association of Former Scholarship Recipients of Mexico (ASEMEJA) in Japan with the support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency, highlights the university as the first higher education institution in the world to achieve this honor.

According to Eugenio Reyes Guzmán, Director of the World Trade Center Monterrey UANL, this represents a significant milestone, as no university had received the award since it was established.

The achievement was made possible through a collaborative effort between students from the Faculty of Political Science and International Relations and the company Manufacturas Metálicas Maldonado, where they applied the five core principles of the 5S methodology: sorting, organizing, cleaning, standardizing, and sustaining discipline.

As a result, the implementation led to tangible improvements in production efficiency, waste reduction, better use of space, and an increase in both productivity and sales for the company involved.
