MIAMI, FLORIDA, USA - Six leaders in Florida's global trade sector will be honored at the World Trade Center Miami's 14th annual International Women's Day luncheon on March 8, 2017.   

“We will also launch a powerful new initiative, ‘1,000 Women Strong,’ at our annual event,” said Romaine Seguin, president, UPS International, Inc.–Americas Region, and chair of the World Trade Center Miami. “Our purpose is to raise our voices in support of global trade. Now, more than ever before, advocacy is crucial to our region’s future.” 

Hundreds of professional women and men are expected to attend the International Women’s Day event, which will include several professional development workshops, before the awards luncheon.
“Our 1,000 Women Strong initiative will advance a wide range of issues for women professionals, as well as international trade, and be a unique networking opportunity for the leaders in our community,” said Charlotte Gallogly, WTCM president and CEO.

Gallogly announced the WTCM's six 2017 International Women's Day honorees:
• Dr. Susan Amat, CEO/founder, Venture Hive
• Teresa Foxx, director and general manager, Barclays’ Miami office
• Inmaculada Gutiérrez-Carrizo, Trade Commissioner of the Embassy of Spain for the Southeast United States
• Wendy E. Kallergis, president & CEO, The Greater Miami & The Beaches Hotel Association
• Nathalie Olijslager-Jaarsma, Consul General, the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Miami
• Alissa Peñaloza, planning, grants, and real estate development manager, PortMiami 

“International trade benefits virtually all sectors of South Florida’s economy: logistics, manufacturing, professional services, export/import, tourism, real estate and more,” said Seguin. “Today, global trade needs as many advocates as possible.”  

Since 1975, International Women’s Day has assumed a global dimension for women in developed and developing countries. This annual celebration by the United Nations serves to focus attention on the issues facing women around the world, and highlights their achievements. 

In 2004, the World Trade Center Miami began to sponsor this annual event in order to recognize Florida women who have inspired others to make major accomplishments in international business.
