WTC Leeuwarden Visits Groningen Seaports

May 24, 2017

LEEUWARDEN, NETHERLANDS - On May 16th, 2017 we were welcomed by our member Groningen Seaports (located in the far north of the Netherlands) in order to take part of their business excursion. During this exclusive WTC Leeuwarden Business Club event, our members got to know more about Groningen Seaports in an unusual way.

Groningen Seaports is the port authority for the port of Delfzijl, Eemshaven and the adjoining industrial sites. Groningen Seaports manages an area totalling approximately 2600 hectares. The organization provides the complete package of port services to its industrial and commercial clients, from logistics and infrastructure services to the issue and maintenance of the sites in both port regions. As well as the two excellently equipped ports, Groningen Seaports manages the industrial sites around the ports and at other areas in the Eemsdelta. To inform interested parties about their activities, Groningen Seaports offers the excursion ‘Salt on the pants’.

The program of the day consisted of a boat trip through the Eemshaven, an introduction on Seaports, and a virtual tour of the whole site using 3D technology.

During the boat trip, clothes can get wet, hence the name of the excursion; Salt on the pants. With hard winds and a speed of 50 km/h, the WTC members flew over the water of the Eemshaven. Everything was told about the companies located there, the boats and ships that lay there and how the whole Eemshaven was established.

It was a very educational and interesting afternoon. Now we also know the story behind all the windmills and large companies that are located there.
