LEEUWARDEN, NETHERLANDS - Don’t ask “Why SHOULD I do business in the USA?” The question is rather: “Why are you not ALREADY doing business there?”

On November 21, 2016, our WTC Leeuwarden Business Academy focused on the United States of America. During our Business Course, several experts shared their keen knowledge and insights with the intention of preparing our participants – local entrepreneurs – for starting or expanding their businesses in the United States. Roland van Marlen, who has more than 10 years of experience supporting American companies in Europe, as well as European companies in the USA, discussed different entry & growth strategies. Also, he taught the audience the methods one can use for establishing an office and what to keep in mind when doing so.

Furthermore, Phillip Hammerstein, a commercial specialist from the U.S. Embassy in The Hague, explained the ins and outs of Foreign Direct Investment and what one should be aware of when considering this. What made the course special was the fact that we, WTC Leeuwarden, made use of the unique World Trade Center network. Scott Center, chairman of WTC Savannah, and John Petrino from Savannah Ports Authority discussed the logistical side of doing business in the USA. Anne Wolfson, a New York attorney with a lot of experience assisting European companies, discussed the legal aspects. We thank them for their help!

During the afternoon Willem Post, a well-known expert on American politics, shared with us his understanding of the recent elections. But more important, Post argued that the United States has so much to offer to the international entrepreneur. Hence his statement: “Don’t ask - why SHOULD I do business in the USA?  The question is rather: Why are you not ALREADY doing business there?”

Finally, we would like to thank the World Trade Centers in Los Angeles, San Diego, Utah, Philadelphia and Orlando for sharing information on their regions with us!
