The World Trade Center - Kansas City welcomed and hosted the Icelandic Ambassador to the United States Geir H. Haarde and his wife Mrs. Inga Jona Thordardottir. The Ambassador was invited to celebrate the Icelandair inaugural flights between Kansas City and Reykjavik. The direct flight will strengthen the existing bilateral relations between Iceland and Kansas City through increased tourism and trade.
On their first day in Kansas City, the Ambassador and his wife enjoyed a private curated tour of the Nelson-Atkins Art Museum and a welcome reception at Union Station hosted by the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce and the World Trade Center. They met with Kansas City Missouri Mayor Sly James to learn more about living and working in KCMO and interviewed with Channel 41 News regarding tourism and travel in Iceland. The WTC – KC introduced the Ambassador to an Icelandic company, Marel, to spotlight the positive business climate for international companies in Kansas City.
To celebrate Iceland’s appearance in the 2018 World Cup, the WTC - KC and the Ambassador toured Pinnacle National Development Center, Sporting KC’s state-of-the-art training facility, and Children’s Mercy Park Stadium. The couple was welcomed on the big screen and kicked around a soccer ball on the stadium’s pitch. The World Trade Center – KC displayed the positive business climate of the region as well as some of the beautiful sites and experiences Kansas City offers.
