WTC Goa to set up Panel for Promoting Exports

World Trade Centre Goa in association with MSME Development Institute, Goa Ship Yard Limited and World Trade Centre Mumbai, organized a State Level Vendor Development Programme (SVDP) on the 15th of February, 2018, at Mapusa, Goa
The Chief Guest Mr. S.P. Verenkar, President of the Thivim Industrial Estate Industries Association and Managing Director of M/s. Sunshine Electric Company Private Limited in his key note address acknowledged the fact that Goa is blessed with some of the most talented entrepreneurs and they are always looking at various avenues to increase their Sales and Marketing reach. He expressed that the WTC in Goa is doing the industry yeoman services by organizing quality programmes for highlighting the opportunities that are available to Goan entrepreneurs in the overseas markets as well as domestic markets through the
State Level Vendor Development programmes which are beacons to increasing supplies to the Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) of the Government of India operating out of the State of Goa. He opined the procurement policy of the PSUs will give the Goan Entrepreneurs a much needed boost to their local sales and urged the entrepreneurs to take advantage of the different schemes of the Goa Shipyard Ltd which encourage local procurement.
Mr. A.V. Raviprakash, General Manager (Commercial) Goa Ship Yard Limited said that GSL is making continual efforts to promote skilled manpower development in MSE sector which is vital for the success of Defense production. He explained that the items procured for shipbuilding projects are not falling under category of 358 items reserved for procurement from MSE as per “Annexure-I”. Initially there was restricted scope for procurement exclusively from MSE from 2012-13 on wards. However after due diligence and identification of items and services which are generic in nature, GSL has managed to enhance procurement from MSEs and has successfully achieved set target of 20% procurement from MSEs. Mr Raviprakash urged the World Trade Centre to strongly consider to set up a high profile panel of Industry experts who would chalk out a programme to boost international trade from Goa as well as advise on suitable avenues to increase supplies to PSU undertakings operating out of the state of Goa
Mr. P.P. Kulkarni, Assistant Director, MSME Development Institute, Goa shared a power point presentation on the Public Procurement Policy for Micro and Small Enterprises, he said that the objective of the Policy is the promotion and development of Micro and Small Enterprises by supporting them in marketing of products produced and services rendered by them. However, the policy rests upon core principle of competitiveness, adhering to sound procurement practices and execution of supplies in accordance with a system which is fair, equitable, transparent, competitive and cost effective.

Earlier Mr Cyril Desouza, Asst. Director, Trade Promotion, World Trade Centre, Goa Welcomed the Dignitaries and delegates and briefed them on the objective of the programme which was to identify suitable MSMEs and encourage them to be local suppliers to the PSUs operating out of Goa. He later shared a power point presentation on the forthcoming Global Economic Summit 2018, to be held in Mumbai from 22nd – 24th February, 2018 and highlighted how the MSMEs could be effectively use the Global Value Chain ecosystem to enhance their Business productivity, effectively boost exports and improve their respective entities profitability.
