The Edmonton Chamber of Commerce has contacted over 90 U.S. Chambers of Commerce to highlight the importance and benefits of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) to our two countries. The Chamber is encouraging its members to take action and strengthen the conversation.

The U.S. is Canada’s largest trading partner with 400,000 people and $2.4 billion in goods and services crossing the border daily. Close to 9 million Americans and 2 million Canadians have jobs that are directly linked to trade between the U.S. and Canada.

“If you run a business, reach out to your U.S. customers, suppliers, and partners and emphasize the importance of NAFTA and free trade. Urge them to tell their elected officials how important trade with Canada is,” said Janet Riopel, President & CEO of the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce. “NAFTA is fundamentally important to the health, strength, and resiliency of our two economies.”

The Edmonton Chamber has developed an advocacy package including talking points, templates, and data (available online), for Canadian businesses to use when contacting their U.S. suppliers, customers, and partners.

“We all need to do our part to protect and grow the $1.3 trillion in annual trade that NAFTA represents,” said Riopel. “Understanding the benefits of NAFTA will lead to a revitalized agreement that further strengthens the ties between our two nations.”
