UN Day at WTC Dresden, Oct 23rd 2015

Aug 31, 2015

DRESDEN, GERMANY - This year is an important year, for the United Nations and for the world. People from around the world will celebrate the 70th birthday of the United Nations. The UN Day marks the anniversary of the entry into force of the UN Charter in 1945. With the ratification of this founding document by the majority of its signatories, the United Nations officially came into being.

Host of the UN since 2012, the WTC Dresden too will join in this celebration!

Tenants like UNU-FLORES and the City of Dresden, but also the Regional Branch of the German Association for the United Nations (Landesverband der Deutschen Gesellschaft für die Vereinten Nationen e.V.) and the Technische Universität Dresden will be joining forces with local partners to celebrate on the 23th October 2015. The UN Day Dresden 2015 celebration will take place under the theme ‘Time for Global Action – For People and For Planet’.

The interactive public event from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the World Trade Center Dresden will inform and entertain all ages with an Info-Fair, a stage programme, a children’s programme and many side events and workshops. UN entities will join forces with international, regional and local organizations and initiatives to raise aware and educate visitors about the work and mission of the UN. With practical tips for daily life, exhibitors are encouraged to help visitors make the connection between their everyday life and the abstract concept of a sustainable society. Vacation and school holiday programmes will be invited to make a fieldtrip to UN Day with their participants and all organizing partners have committed to using their various channels to promote the event.

The evening event will comprise a keynote speech, panel discussion and award ceremony at the Kulturrathaus. The overriding theme of this event will evolve around the Goal #2 of the SDGs ‘End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture’.

The WTC Dresden is proud to locate such an important tenant like UNU-FLORES, especially because there are only 2 UN locations in Germany (Bonn, Dresden). With hosting this event, we underline our position in Dresden as the leading centre of business and science. Of course the festivity will be accompanied by reports of the local press which is a perfect possibility to point out our principles like cosmopolitanism, worldwide networking and internationality.
