Export of Services under GST

We organized a webinar “Export of Services under GST – Concerns & Challenges” in association with the Indo American Chamber of Commerce (IACC) which discussed the applicable provisions, various legal aspects, concerns & practical challenges involved in the export of services from India under the GST framework. Shri. M.V.S. Choudary IRS, Chief Commissioner, GST & Central Excise, Tamilnadu and Puducherry Zone was the Chief Guest. Mr. Sundeep Gupta- Partner at ASA & Associates, Delhi and Ms. Jayashree S K- Associate Director at ASA & Associates, Bengaluru spoke on the subject.

Shri M.V.S. Choudary in his keynote address spoke about the various measures being taken by CGST dept, Tamil nadu and Puducherry. Trained officers are being posted in Seva Kendras to guide taxpayers regarding filing of returns and helps them online as well during times of the pandemic. Taxpayers are also given the options to register their grievances online after which the issue will be escalated by nodal officers. Daily reports of refund is received from DG systems and this is processed periodically to ensure it is disposed within 15 days from date of application. Numerous webinars are organised to educate taxpayers about the new changes. Articles about the latest circulars and notifications are posted in Twitter. Exporters are offered complete assistance by officers regarding filing of refund, online application, documents required, bank account validation etc.

Mr. Sundeep Gupta spoke about the vast portion of Indian exports that is being contributed by service exports (roughly $133 Billion). The measures taken under GST are not just trade facilitations but are very proactive. Ms. Jayashree S.K. spoke about various legal aspects of service exports and different scenarios for transactions between offices in India and overseas. She explained with a few case studies the rulings on various intermediary services. She also briefed the audience on the exports and refund.
