Intl. Cargo Terminal to Boost Exports from Odisha

BHUBANESWAR, INDIA - A team of senior officials from Paradip International Cargo Terminal visited World Trade Centre Bhubaneswar on 18th July 2017 for a fruitful discussion on the upcoming facilities to be offered by Paradip International Cargo Terminal to be operational by November 2017.

“Paradip International Cargo Terminal (PICT) is a project of J.M. Baxi Group [one of India’s largest and most experienced group in Shipping and Logistics]. In order to cater to the container traffic and clean cargo, Paradip Port Trust decided to undertake the development of a Multi-purpose Berth through Public Private Participation (PPP) on Build, Operate and Transfer basis and through a bidding process. International Cargo Terminals & Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. (ICT&IPL) which is a part of the J.M. Baxi Group has been selected as a the Operator for this Terminal after a competitive bidding process” shared Mr. Anand A, Deputy General Manager, PICT. “The terminal has a total Capacity of Berth –5 Million Tons per annum with Quay Length –450 M Quay Width –27.50 M Vessel, 1,25,000 DWT capacity and Dredged depth alongside the berth (-) 17.1 mtrs is spread in an area of 26.37 hectares” he added. 

He further highlighted various facilities such as Fertilizer Bagging Unit, Conveyor System, MHC Container Handling, Fertilizer Warehouse, Rail Connectivity in Port and Mechanised Bulk Handling at Port with Conveyor System which would be now available for the utility of the exporters of the State. 

Welcoming the development of the much needed infrastructure facility the team of WTC Bhubaneswar represented by Ms. Nimeshika Natarajan and Mr. Budhadev Bhanjo stated that the initiative would provide a major boost to the exports from the state. While discussing on the hindrances faced by the exporters in the process of shipping their consignments from the ports of the neighboring state, they also highlighted the potential sectors which should be focused on for being oriented about the upcoming facility. Creation of awareness and technical as well as procedural hand holding would be the key for increase in direct export from the State they added.

Both the organizations agreed upon to work in mutual cooperation and support towards enhancing the competitiveness of the exporters of Odisha leading them towards a much superior performance in international trade.
