Cross-strait Fair for Economy and Trade
FUZHOU, CHINA - The Cross-strait Fair for Economy and Trade, also known as the “May 18th Event” or “CFET”, can be dated back to 1994 when it was launched as “China (Fuzhou) International Investment Month”. Now it has been developed into a large-scale international event for business promotion held by Fuzhou Municipal People’s Government and co-sponsored by General Administration of Customs of China, the General Administration of Customs of China, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of China, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and Fujian Provincial People’s Government with the support of the Ministry of Commerce. As the largest economic and trade fair as well as the fruit of the cross-straits cooperation, it has been improved in its size and significance for the last 21 years, with the number of participating countries and regions growing steadily, the amount of project investment, the volume of economic and trade transaction and the number of participating merchants reaching an all-time high, making a remarkable progress in the business promotion. In this fair, over 4000 foreign investment projects have been contracted, absorbing more than 30 billion US dollars. In balance, it has become the platform representing all the elements of the opening-up policy, the carrier of raising the level of openness and the window of reflecting the image of opening-up.
In 2015, "May 18th Event" will grasp the opportunity of building up Fuzhou into a strategic and pivot city on the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road to concentrate on the theme of "economic and trade exchange, cooperation and mutual benefits", to shore up the communication and cooperation with the countries and regions on the Maritime Silk Road, to attach importance to project signing, to beef up industry connections, to increase the volume of economic transactions, and to steadily enhance the professionalization, internalization and marketization of the fair in the aspect of its influence and vigorousness, so that "May 18th Event" can play more active role in connecting Taiwan, linking with ASEAN and covering other provinces in the mainland.
