Local Updates from World Trade Centers

WTCA Members are located in over 300 cities in nearly 100 countries worldwide. COVID-19 is affecting many of these cities, but to varying degrees. Most World Trade Centers (WTCs) are still operating, either physically or virtually. The list below serves as a reference of a WTC's status. Many are also offering resources for local businesses, such as information on receiving financial support, guidance for exporters, preparedness guides, and more.

  • WTC Twente: On May 6, the World Trade Center Twente re-opened its business center for tenants and co-workers by adapting the interior to the (minimum of) 1,5 meter distance, implementing a traffic plan and increasing and intensifying hygiene measures. Furthermore, WTC Twente participates in a Covid-19 business support help desk together with innovation partner Novel-T. Important in WTC Twente’s strategy is to stay in personal contact with all tenants.   • WTC Sharjah: The World Trade Center Sharjah has turned its Expo Centre into a 2,000-bed medical facility to assist the local community during the pandemic. The WTC is also offering webinars and virtual meetings for its business members.

Virtual Programming Offered by WTCA Members*

WTCA Members are quickly developing virtual events and webinars to meet the needs of communities worldwide. From practical skills to learning how to do business during the pandemic, programs are hosted by World Trade Centers and include local, national, and international experts.

  • July 16, 2020 9:00-10:00 PST Information in a Digital Age - Part 1: Journalism in a Changing World (WTC Northern California)
    World Trade Center Northern California and Global Ties San Francisco present a three-part series to examine how we receive and respond to news and information in the era of emerging technologies. Journalists have long played an important role in providing news, information and accountability around the globe. With evolving technological advances and increased connectivity, the way people receive news and information continues to evolve as well. In an age where “breaking news” is readily available at any given moment, how have journalists kept pace? Have journalistic standards been adjusted or impacted by technology? Or influenced by other factors? In this session, panelists will discuss the role of journalists around the world, the experiences and challenges they face in reporting, and their efforts to ensure the public has access to solid and reliable information.   • July 21, 2020 14:00-15:00 CEST Expanding into the Caribbean Region (WTC Savannah and WTC Kentucky)
    Are you looking to diversify your export market? Have you considered expanding into the Caribbean region? The Caribbean region is the United States’ 2nd largest export market south of the U.S. border, only second to Mexico. Caribbean countries purchase over $21 billion worth of American products and services annually. The Caribbean region is a natural commercial partner of the United States, tied closely by geography, history and culture. There is a huge demand for U.S.-made products in the region. WTCSavannah, in partnership with WTC Kentucky, will host a virtual quarterly roundtable for companies who are currently exporting and/or have a strong interest in exporting. Learn best practices and build a network of companies that are currently exporting. The meeting will include a short presentation and time for question and answer.   • Epidemic Prevention Products Online Expo (WTC Beijing)
    CCPIT Beijing established the online Medical Supply Expo to showcase diagnostic reagent, medical equipment, Traditional Chinese Medicine, AI diagnosis system, temperature taking equipment, sterilizer, protective garment, isolation gown, etc. Expo website is available in a wide variety of languages.

  • Chancellor’s Certificate in International Trade (CCIT) Program (WTC St. Louis)
    This online program is a practical curriculum for executives, managers and employees who conduct business or plan to work in international markets. It is provided by the WTC St. Louis and the University of Missouri – St. Louis with assistance from qualified international consultants and professionals at regional companies already engaged in business overseas.
