2nd Edition of the Geopolitical Annual Trade Risk Index (GATRI)

Monday, June 8 marked the launch of the second edition of the Geopolitical Annual Trade Risk Index (GATRI), a joint initiative of the Hague Centre for Strategic Studies (HCSS) and World Trade Centers Association.

As geopolitical uncertainty continues to reshape global trade, GATRI provides policymakers and business leaders with a data-driven way to assess how diplomatic, economic, and military developments influence international commerce. The index translates complex geopolitical dynamics into a single, accessible metric to support strategic decision-making.

While GATRI is not causally mapped to trade outcomes, it is overlaid with trade data to explore correlations and contextualize potential impacts. Launched with a baseline score for 2024 of 100, GATRI harnesses open-source data across economic, military, and diplomatic fields to provide an annual snapshot that reflects the state of geopolitical stability and its impact on international trade.
