2026 WTCA Day: Why Global Business Relationships Matter Now More Than Ever

Every year on June 12, the World Trade Centers Association celebrates WTCA Day. WTCA Day is an opportunity to reflect on the role our global network continues to play in supporting international business relationships, trade and economic growth around the world.  

This year’s celebration marks the 24th anniversary of WTCA Day’s official proclamation in 2002, pronounced by then-New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the office of the Secretary General of United Nations, to recognize WTCA and its network of World Trade Center® (WTC ®) locations for encouraging and facilitating trade, promoting economic development and fostering peace. More than two decades later, the need for strong international partnerships remains incredibly important to businesses and communities worldwide.  

Over the course of my membership and Board tenure at WTCA, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing the Association evolve alongside the changing dynamics of global business itself. International trade today looks very different than it did even a decade ago, as both policy and supply chain considerations have shifted. Technology has accelerated cross-border collaboration. Cities and regions are competing more strategically for investment and talent, while businesses are navigating increasing geopolitical and economic uncertainty. In that environment, trusted business relationships and direct connections matter now more than ever.  

Through all of these changes, WTCA has continued to bring together business, real estate, trade and global convening in a way few organizations can.  

What makes our network so special is that it was never designed to be simply a collection of buildings, business clubs or trade facilitators. It is a globally connected ecosystem built on helping companies, entrepreneurs and communities create meaningful international opportunities. Across nearly 100 countries and territories, WTC-branded businesses continue to help create new business relationships, investment opportunities and economic growth within their local markets.    

We have seen how new WTC businesses have exceeded market expectations in their local communities, garnering commercial and residential interest at rates as high as 40 % above market prices on the day they opened sales to the public. There has also been an influx of large conglomerates attaining WTC licenses to elevate their countries and cities as rising economic hubs within the global landscape through the WTCA platform. And, most recently, we have seen how our 25-Premier Accredited WTCA Members — whose facilities and services have met or exceeded industry standards in specializations including Business & Member Services, Commercial Real Estate & Services, Conference & Exhibition Services and Trade Development — have garnered local and international recognition, attracting investment partners, enhancing learning and growth within organizations, and inviting long-term and premier tenants for rental facilities, where available.   

One of the most rewarding aspects of my work with WTCA has been watching the Association become increasingly collaborative and globally integrated. Our Members are not only promoting trade within their own regions, but actively partnering with one another across borders to drive business transactions, investment opportunities and long-term economic development in markets around the world.  

That growing momentum was especially evident at this year’s WTCA Global Business Forum (GBF) in Philadelphia. Interest in the event reached across a broad range of countries internationally, including increasing engagement from business leaders and media outlets eager to participate in conversations about global trade, investment, and commercial real estate developments and trends. It was encouraging to see that level of international engagement at a time when businesses around the world are actively seeking trusted opportunities to build relationships and pursue growth across borders.  

WTCA Day is about more than celebrating an anniversary — it is about recognizing the resilience of international business communities and reaffirming the importance of global cooperation during moments of both opportunity and uncertainty.  

As we celebrate this 24th anniversary of WTCA Day, I remain optimistic about the future of our Association and the growing role WTCA can play in shaping the next era of international commerce. Our network continues to grow as businesses look for strong international partnerships and more meaningful global connections.  

Most importantly, the people within our Association continue to demonstrate that meaningful collaboration across borders is not just possible, but essential in today’s climate.
